176 álbumes de jazz

Comenzaré en este club de escritura con una lista de álbumes de jazz que recomiendo. Muchas personas que aman la literatura, como Julio Cortázar por nombrar sólo un grande entre los escritores, también han sido grandes amantes del jazz.

Miles Davis dijo una vez que toda la historia del jazz puede ser narrada en 4 palabras: «Louis Armstrong Charlie Parker».

El maestro Gonzalo Micó, formado en el GIT, Hollywood, California, bajo la tutela del maestro Joe Diorio, una vez me dijo que las personalidades más importantes de la historia de la humanidad eran 4 (por supuesto, esto es una extrema simplificación y algo muy subjetivo del maestro Micó): Leonardo Da Vinci, Juan Sebastian Bach, John Coltrane y Charlie Parker. El primero por ser el más grande inventor de la historia de la humanidad, inventos que exigían tener conocimientos de múltiples disciplinas, además de artista sin igual, y en varias artes, como música y pintura principalmente; Bach por establecer «lo que es la música occidental» sentando las bases musicales a partir de las cuales se pudo desarrollar el segundo bloque de la música occidental posterior a la música antigua: la música moderna hasta nuestro siglo 21, por lo que muchas veces escuchamos decir «antes y después de Bach»; Parker por ser el iniciador del jazz moderno, en el que dentro del contexto de la armonía se desarrollan las posibilidades de los acordes (extensiones armónicas – tensiones); John Coltrane por «inventar» la improvisación basada en el sistema de terceras mayores ascendentes (tercer grado de la escala mayor) y contribuir grandemente con Miles Davis, al principio junto con él, en la puesta en práctica de la forma de improvisación modal, basada no en una nota o acorde particulares, sino en las escalas o modos de cada acorde que conforma la progresión armónica de cada pieza o tema musical. Quedaban en paralelo las formas de improvisar sobre los acordes que conforman la progresión armónica de una pieza musical, mas no de sus escalas correspondientes; y la de la improvisación sobre la melodía de la pieza o tema musical.

Yo añadiría a Miles Davis como una 5a posibilidad («no hay 5° malo»), por haberse encargado de «llevar más allá» el jazz moderno de Charlie Parker, desde 1943 hasta nuestros días, o sea de desarrollar el jazz moderno que él inventó e inició (hasta hoy conocido como bebop), con quien Miles tocó durante 8 años desde sus 18 años de edad, y porque toda la música de jazz moderno durante el retiro parcial de Miles Davis, desde 1975 hasta 1980, sonaba a Miles Davis: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Weather Report, Wayne Shorter, Airto Moreira, Herbie Hancock, Hermeto Pascoal, Jack DeJohnette, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams, Dave Holland y muchos otros. Toda la música de jazz moderno a partir de 1975 giraba en torno a Miles Davis y los desarrollos/proyectos musicales que las nuevas estrellas del jazz moderno con sus respectivas bandas emprendían de la segunda mitad de la década de los 70 en adelante. Y claro, todas estas estrellas habían tocado con Miles Davis y se habían desarrollado grandemente bajo sus alas, y todos ellos fueron luego estrellas por sí mismos, por lo que siempre se ha dicho que Miles es «el hechicero», «the sorcerer» (sobre todo como líder de sus diversas agrupaciones), y sin dudas, un «hacedor de estrellas», un «star maker».
